Jeep Meridian
Jeep's three-row SUV, built in India on a stretched Compass base and sold only with a 2.0-litre diesel. It suits families who want a well-built seven-seater that rides bad roads calmly and can be had with real four-wheel drive, and who mostly carry five with the third row as back-up.

Our verdict on the Meridian
The Meridian is a solid, comfortable diesel SUV with genuine off-road hardware, but it is priced against bigger and better-equipped rivals. The diesel is strong, the ride is excellent on broken roads and the cabin feels well made. The third row, though, is best for children, the boot is small with all seats up, and you pay over ₹36 lakh before you get 4x4. A Toyota Fortuner is cruder but holds value better; a Skoda Kodiaq is roomier and more refined; a Hyundai Alcazar gives you more features for far less. We would buy a Meridian only if you value its ride and build, or need the 4x4, and can get a good dealer discount.
Good things
- Strong 2.0 diesel and a smooth 9-speed automatic
- Rides rough roads with real composure
- Proper 4x4 with terrain modes on the top automatics
- Sliding second row and 360-degree camera from the Limited (O)
Could be better
- Third row is tight for adults and the boot is tiny with it in use
- 4x4 only above ₹36 lakh
- No petrol or hybrid option
- Jeep does not publish a full spec sheet or official fuel efficiency

Jeep Meridian: a comfortable seven-seater with real 4x4 ability
The Meridian is Jeep's three-row SUV for India, built at Ranjangaon and based on the Compass with a longer body and wheelbase. Every version uses the same 2.0-litre Multijet diesel, rated by Jeep at 170 hp and 350 Nm. The lower trims offer a 6-speed manual; the 9-speed automatic is available across the range, and four-wheel drive comes only on the top automatic versions.
Prices run from ₹23.33 lakh for the five-seat Longitude manual to ₹38.26 lakh for the Track Edition 4x4. In between are the Longitude Plus, Limited (O) and Overland, plus the Trail, Track and 85th Anniversary editions, which mostly add decals, wheels and trim colours. The 2026 update brought sliding second-row seats to the Limited (O) and Overland, which makes the third row easier to reach and use.
On the road the Meridian feels dense and settled, and it handles poor surfaces better than most rivals. At 4,769 mm long it is smaller than a Fortuner or Kodiaq, so the third row is tight and the boot is just 170 litres with all seats up. Six airbags and stability control are standard, and Level 2 ADAS arrives on the Overland.
Can adults sit in the third row?
For short trips, yes, but it is best for children. The sliding second row on the Limited (O) and above lets you share legroom, which helps. If you will carry seven adults often, a Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq or MG Gloster has more room.
Do I need the 4x4?
Only if you drive on sand, snow or loose trails. The 4x4 automatics start at ₹36.05 lakh, about ₹1.9 lakh more than the front-wheel-drive Limited (O) automatic. For city and highway use the front-wheel-drive car is enough.
Manual or automatic?
The manual saves ₹2.09 lakh to ₹4.20 lakh depending on trim, but it stops at the Limited (O) and Trail Edition. The 9-speed automatic suits the diesel well and is the only way to get Overland, Track Edition or 4x4.
Are the special editions worth it?
They are cosmetic. The Trail Edition is based on the Longitude Plus, while the Track and 85th Anniversary editions sit on the Overland. Pay the premium only if you like the look; the engine, gearbox and safety kit are unchanged.
