Honda ZR-V
The ZR-V is a five-seat hybrid SUV imported from Japan, and Honda’s most expensive car in India. It uses Honda’s 2.0 e:HEV strong-hybrid system with 184 PS and a claimed 22.8 km/l. It suits buyers who want a well-built, efficient and pleasant-to-drive SUV with full safety kit, and who value refinement over size.

Our verdict on the ZR-V
The ZR-V brings Honda’s best hybrid system to India in a compact premium SUV. It is quiet, smooth and efficient, with a claimed 22.8 km/l and strong low-speed response from the electric motor, and the kit list covers everything that matters: Honda SENSING, 8 airbags, a 360-degree camera and Bose audio. The catch is price. At ₹49.99 lakh ex-showroom it is a 4.6-metre five-seater with a 9-inch screen, no sunroof listed and no ventilated seats listed, competing with bigger and better-equipped SUVs, including Kia’s Sorento hybrid seven-seater for much less. Being a fully imported model, parts and accident repairs may also take longer. Buy it if you value efficiency, refinement and Honda reliability above size and gadgets; otherwise, compare carefully before signing.
Good things
- Smooth, refined strong-hybrid powertrain with 184 PS
- 22.8 km/l claimed efficiency, very good for a petrol SUV of this size
- Full safety kit including Honda SENSING ADAS and 8 airbags
- Honda’s reputation for build quality and reliability
Could be better
- ₹49.99 lakh is a lot for a five-seat SUV of this size
- 9-inch touchscreen is small for the price; no sunroof or ventilated seats in Honda’s feature list
- Ground clearance and boot space are not published by Honda India
- Fully imported, so parts and repairs may take longer

Honda ZR-V: a refined hybrid with a premium price
The ZR-V is a five-seat SUV that sits between the Elevate and the larger SUVs Honda sells abroad. In India it is imported fully built from Japan and sold in one version. Honda launched it in July 2026 at an introductory ₹47.99 lakh, and its site now lists ₹49.99 lakh ex-showroom. That makes it the most expensive Honda in the country.
Power comes from Honda’s e:HEV system: a 2.0-litre Atkinson-cycle petrol engine works mostly as a generator for an electric motor that drives the wheels. Combined output is 184 PS, and the motor gives 315 Nm from standstill. At low speeds the car can run on battery power alone; at highway speeds the engine can drive the wheels directly. Honda claims 22.8 km/l and 0-100 km/h in 7.9 seconds.
Inside, there is leather upholstery, a 10.2-inch digital cluster, a 9-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, dual-zone climate control and 12-speaker Bose audio. Safety covers Honda SENSING (adaptive cruise, lane keeping, collision braking), 8 airbags, a 360-degree camera and hill descent control. The 57-litre tank should give a long range between fills.
How does the e:HEV hybrid work?
Most of the time an electric motor drives the wheels, powered by the battery or by the petrol engine acting as a generator. At steady highway speeds the engine can drive the wheels directly through a clutch. You never plug it in; the battery charges itself through the engine and braking.
Is it worth ₹50 lakh?
Only if you specifically want a compact, efficient, refined petrol hybrid from Honda. For similar money or less, you can buy a larger seven-seater or a better-equipped premium SUV. Its value lies in low fuel bills, smoothness and expected reliability, not in space or features.
ZR-V or Kia Sorento hybrid?
The Sorento hybrid is bigger, has seven seats and costs much less in its mid trims. The ZR-V is smaller, should be more efficient and is likely to feel more polished to drive. Families should look at the Sorento first; couples and small families who drive themselves may prefer the ZR-V.
What should we check before buying?
Because Honda India does not publish ground clearance or boot space, check both in person: drive over a speed breaker with a full load and try your luggage in the boot. Also ask about parts availability and accident-repair times for an imported model.
