BYD Sealion 7
The Sealion 7 is BYD’s coupe-styled electric SUV for India, built on its e-Platform 3.0 with Blade batteries. A cheaper Dynamic version now opens the range below ₹42 lakh, with longer-range Premium and twin-motor Performance versions above it. It suits buyers who want a large, quick and well-equipped EV with a big boot, and who are comfortable with a newer brand’s service reach.

Our verdict on the Sealion 7
The Sealion 7 offers a lot of car for the money: a 4.83-metre body with a 2,930 mm wheelbase, a large boot, a long list of safety and comfort features, and strong performance even in the rear-wheel-drive versions. The new Dynamic version makes it far more affordable, though it gives up battery size, charging speed and some comfort features. The Premium is the most balanced choice, while the Performance is very fast but costs ₹6 lakh more for speed most people will rarely use. Note that range figures are NEDC claims and will be noticeably lower in real use. BYD’s dealer network is still smaller than Hyundai’s or Kia’s, so check your nearest service centre. If those points are acceptable, the Sealion 7 undercuts the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Kia EV6 on price while matching them on space and kit.
Good things
- Strong value: large, well-equipped EV from ₹41.90 lakh
- Big 500-litre boot plus front trunk
- Comprehensive safety kit on every version, including Level 2 ADAS and 11 airbags
- Very quick twin-motor Performance version
Could be better
- Range claims are on the lenient NEDC cycle
- Dynamic is limited to 7 kW AC and 110 kW DC charging
- Ground clearance is not published by BYD India
- Smaller dealer and service network than established brands

BYD Sealion 7: a big electric family car at a keen price
The Sealion 7 is a five-seat electric SUV with a sloping, coupe-like roof. It is 4,830 mm long with a 2,930 mm wheelbase and uses BYD’s Blade lithium iron phosphate battery. BYD India sells three versions: Dynamic and Premium with rear-wheel drive, and the all-wheel-drive Performance. The Dynamic arrived in August 2026 as a cheaper entry point.
The Dynamic has a 71.8 kWh battery and a 170 kW rear motor, with an NEDC range of 520 km and 0-100 km/h in 7.3 seconds. The Premium and Performance use an 82.56 kWh pack. The Premium’s 230 kW motor gives 567 km of claimed range, while the Performance adds a front motor for 390 kW, 690 Nm and 0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds, with 542 km claimed.
Every version gets a 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital cluster, a panoramic glass roof, ventilated front seats, 11 airbags, a 360-degree camera and a full Level 2 ADAS suite. The Premium and Performance add a head-up display, Dynaudio audio, leather seats with memory and a hands-free tailgate, plus faster charging.
How far will it really go on a charge?
BYD quotes NEDC figures of 520-567 km, which are optimistic. Expect roughly 380-450 km in mixed real-world driving depending on the version, and less at high highway speeds. That is still enough for most intercity trips with one fast-charging stop.
Dynamic or Premium?
The Dynamic saves ₹8 lakh but has a smaller battery, slower charging (7 kW AC, 110 kW DC), no head-up display and no genuine leather seats. If you mainly drive in the city with home charging, it is enough. For regular highway trips, the Premium’s range and 150 kW charging are worth paying for.
Sealion 7 or Hyundai IONIQ 5?
The Sealion 7 Premium costs about ₹6 lakh less than the IONIQ 5 and has more power. The IONIQ 5 claims 690 km on the Indian ARAI cycle (not directly comparable with BYD’s NEDC figures), charges faster at its peak and has Hyundai’s much larger service network. Choose on service reach and the driving position you prefer.
What warranty does BYD give?
BYD India covers the traction battery, motor and motor controller for 8 years or 1.6 lakh km, and the rest of the car for 6 years or 1.5 lakh km, whichever comes first. Some parts, such as lights and suspension components, have shorter cover.
