Our verdict on the VF 7

The VF 7 gives a lot for its price: a spacious cabin, a big boot, a 5-star Bharat NCAP score, and features like ventilated seats and a head-up display from the base variant. The Wind is the sweet spot, because the 70 kWh battery adds close to 100 km of claimed range over the Earth. The AWD Sky is properly quick but costs more and goes slightly less far. Our reservations are about the company rather than the car. VinFast is new in India, its workshops are few, and resale values are untested. Compare it carefully with the Mahindra XEV 9e and BYD Atto 3, and buy only if there is a VinFast service centre within easy reach.

VinFast VF 7: plenty of car for the money, if service is close

The VF 7 is VinFast's flagship SUV in India. It is 4,550 mm long with a 2,840 mm wheelbase, and its sloping roofline gives it a sportier look than most family SUVs. Boot space is 537 litres and ground clearance is 190 mm. It received a 5-star rating from Bharat NCAP in January 2026, and is assembled at VinFast's plant in Tamil Nadu.

There are five variants. The Earth uses a 59.6 kWh battery and a 177 PS front motor for a claimed 438 km. The Wind and Wind Infinity move to a 70 kWh battery and a 204 PS motor, claiming 532 km, and add Level 2 ADAS and a powered tailgate. The Sky and Sky Infinity use two motors for all-wheel drive, with 353 PS and 500 Nm, and claim 510 km. The Infinity versions add a panoramic glass roof.

DC fast charging peaks at 110 kW on the 70 kWh cars, with about 28 minutes quoted for 10 to 70 per cent. AC charging is capped at 7.2 kW, and a 3.3 kW portable charger is supplied. Every variant gets seven airbags, a 360-degree camera, ventilated front seats, a head-up display and a 12.9-inch touchscreen with wireless phone mirroring.

Is the VF 7 Earth worth it, or should we go for the Wind?

Go for the Wind if you can. For ₹2.9 lakh more it brings the larger battery, close to 100 km more claimed range, a stronger motor and Level 2 ADAS. The Earth makes sense only for city use where range is not a concern.

Do we need the all-wheel-drive Sky?

Most buyers do not. The Sky is much quicker, but the Wind already has enough performance for Indian roads. The AWD version costs more, claims slightly less range and, in Sky form, loses the glass roof.

How dependable is VinFast's after-sales support?

VinFast entered India in 2025 and had around 50 showrooms by March 2026. That is far fewer than Tata, Mahindra or Hyundai. Ask your dealer where the nearest workshop is, how long parts take and what the warranty covers before booking.

Which rivals should we test drive?

Look at the Mahindra XEV 9e and BE 6, the BYD Atto 3 and the Tata Harrier EV. They cover a similar price and size, and most come with larger service networks.
