Isuzu Hi-Lander
The entry ticket to Isuzu's double-cab pickup: the same five-seat body and 163 hp 1.9 diesel as the V-Cross, but with rear-wheel drive only and simpler equipment. It suits buyers who want a tough, roomy pickup for highways, farms and light loads, and who do not need 4x4.

Our verdict on the Hi-Lander
The Hi-Lander is for people who want a double-cab pickup but not the cost of 4x4. You get the full-size body, a strong diesel and stability control, at about ₹4.5 lakh less than the cheapest V-Cross. The cuts are clear: no 4x4, 16-inch steel wheels, a small wired screen and only two airbags. Without 4x4 and with an empty, light rear end, traction on wet or loose ground is limited. If you will ever leave the tarmac, stretch to the V-Cross. If you mainly need a hard-working five-seater with an open deck for roads and farm tracks, the Hi-Lander automatic is sensible value.
Good things
- Much cheaper than the V-Cross with the same body and engine
- Automatic option with cruise control and rear camera
- ESC, traction control and hill descent as standard
- Big open deck and five proper seats
Could be better
- No 4x4, so grip on mud, sand and wet grass is limited
- Only two airbags on both versions
- Basic cabin with steel wheels and a small wired screen
- Long and wide for city use, with a thin service network in places

Isuzu Hi-Lander: the double-cab pickup without the 4x4 bill
The Hi-Lander shares its body with the V-Cross. It is a five-seat double-cab with an open deck, 5,295 mm long with a 3,095 mm wheelbase. It is sold to private buyers, unlike Isuzu's S-CAB, which is aimed at commercial users. Power comes from the same 1.9-litre turbo diesel with 163 hp and 360 Nm, driving the rear wheels only.
There are two versions. The manual costs ₹21.50 lakh and the automatic ₹23.60 lakh on Isuzu's list. Isuzu also lists a 'Premium' price ₹28,000 higher for each; it does not say what this covers, but it appears to be a paint choice rather than extra kit. The automatic is a 6-speed torque converter and adds cruise control and a rear camera.
Standard kit includes Bi-LED headlamps, a 7-inch touchscreen with wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, rear parking sensors, ISOFIX mounts and seat-belt reminders for all seats. Stability control, traction control and hill descent are standard too. It rides on 16-inch steel wheels, and the deck carries up to 225 kg in the manual and 195 kg in the automatic.
How is it different from the V-Cross?
Same body, engine and gearboxes, but the Hi-Lander is rear-wheel drive only. It also misses the V-Cross Z Prestige's alloys, 360-degree camera, big wireless screen and roof rails. The cheapest V-Cross costs about ₹4.5 lakh more and adds 4x4.
Is the Hi-Lander a commercial vehicle?
No. It is sold as a private five-seat pickup. Isuzu's commercial double-cab is the S-CAB. Pickup registration and tax rules differ by state, so confirm with your dealer and RTO before you buy.
Can it go off-road without 4x4?
It has hill descent control and traction control, but with drive only to the rear wheels and a light, empty deck, it can lose grip on wet grass, sand or mud. For real trails, choose the V-Cross.
What does it cost to run?
Isuzu does not publish an official mileage figure. The engine needs diesel plus AdBlue (DEF), and Isuzu's service network is thin in many regions, so check where your nearest Isuzu workshop is before you buy.
